I was privileged to be brought up in a Christian home. My dad spent nearly forty years with General Motors; my mother was a home-maker.
From my dad I learned a love for God’s Word and also for the outdoors-hunting and fishing in particular. I hope I gained a little of my mother’s quiet dignity and resourcefulness.
I was led to the Lord at the age of seven by my Sunday School Teacher, Nina Leach. This was at the North Baptist Church at Flint, Michigan. The church just recently celebrated its One Hundredth Anniversary.
From Michigan I went to Tennessee where I attended Bible School and Seminary at Tennessee Temple. I graduated from the college in 1967 with a Bachelor’s Degree and again from the seminary in 1969. I’m just a little slow, so it was about twenty-five years later before I earned a graduate degree in education from Bob Jones University.
An even greater achievement while at Temple was meeting and marrying my wife, Maxine (June 7, 1966). We spent twenty-two years in Christian Education in far away places like South and North Carolina and the island of Guam.
We returned to the states in 1996, settled here in Mooresville and have enjoyed nearly twelve years here at Eastside Baptist Church (Lord willing-my first and only pastorate). Maxine and I have two married daughters, and five grandchildren. Of course, that doesn’t include the “zillion” grandchildren we have running around the church.
If the Lord should lead you to Race City, U.S.A. in His providential care-we would love to see you at Eastside. Our desire for Eastside Baptist Church is that it be a place where God’s Word is honored and visitors are welcome.

I was born and reared in Peru, South America. My parents work as missionaries in Lima, Peru. While I was in High school I helped my dad with the teen ministry in our Church. It was exciting to see God work I the lives of my friends as they were learning about Him and getting to know Him. I remember think that I really wanted to be a part of helping others get to know God.
I went to Bible college in Florida were I met my best friend and future wife, Lauren. After graduating from college I worked in a Christian school on the island of Guam. It was while at this school that God continued to put the desire in my heart to seen teens come to have an intimate relationship with Him. God challenges us to glory in that we know and understand Him.
My wife and I have worked with the teens at Eastside Baptist Church for 10 years. Our desire and goal is to develop in each teen a desire to know and understand God. |
